2026 open Puzzle Contest Registration

We are excited to host the 2nd annal Nebraska State Fair Puzzle Contest on September 5th, 2026! Teams can have up to 4 members each and will each get an identical 500-piece puzzle. Rules can be found below in the registration form. This competition will have two different sectors, open and championship. Registration is due by August 15th, 2026 in order to compete, and includes complimentary gate passes for team members. No walk-up registrations will be taken day of. 

OPEN: Anyone can register for this competition, and will have a prize pool of 160, 80, and 40 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively. Open competition starts at 4pm.

*Note that team names must be professional and appropriate. Use of profanity or other language deemed inappropriate by the NSF will result in the denial of a team’s participation.

Contest Rules

  • The 2026 Nebraska State Fair Puzzle Contest is comprised of multiple competing teams of 1-4 members. No more than 4 members on a team are allowed.
  • If competing in the open competition, individual competitors and teams cannot also register for the championship competition, and vice versa.
  • Event spectators must remain away from the competition tables and are prohibited from assisting in any way. Any spectators engaging in distracting behavior may be asked to leave.
  • Each team has been assigned a table. They may only assemble the puzzle on this table, keeping their assigned table number visible to judges at all times.
  • Teams may not approach another table, study another team’s puzzle, or distract other teams in any way. Teams will be given a verbal warning after one violation of this rule. After a second violation, the Nebraska State Fair reserves the right to disqualify a team.
  • Teams may not use cell phones while completing their puzzles. Headphones are permitted as long as their use does not distract other teams.
  • If a team has pieces missing at the end of the puzzle, 10 seconds for each piece will be added to their time, unless the final piece appears within 10 seconds of searching.
  • Puzzle tools such as spatulas, sorting trays, and other useful tools are allowed as long as tools are not distracting to other teams
  • Self timers are not permitted, we will have a timer to keep track of your time.
