The Nebraska State Fair’s Competitive Exhibits department celebrated a standout year in 2025, highlighted by artistic achievement and increased participation across the board.
At the 2025 Fair, Competitive Exhibits participation grew by 12 percent over the previous year. A total of 11,173 exhibits were entered by 1,486 exhibitors, ranging in age from just 2 years old to 96 years old — a nod, Fair organizers say, to the tradition of Fair involvement that spans generations.
“Not only did we see an increase in the number of individuals entered, we also saw an increase in the overall number of exhibits,” said Lingeman. “Our 4-H/FFA Building is filled to the brim with unique, hand-made creations for guests to admire.”
Of those 1,486 exhibitors, many ended the Fair season with a ribbon displayed proudly and a premium check alongside it. The fair awarded nearly $43,000 in premiums in Competitive Exhibits alone.
Throughout the fair, guests were able to experience the creative process of some exhibitors through live demonstrations highlighting art and textile techniques. Food competitions with categories like Mac-N-Cheese, Men’s Only Division and Pie Judging drew enthusiastic crowds with live judging. Younger fairgoers enjoyed hands-on fun through a kids’ cupcake decorating contest, adding an interactive element that engaged families of all sizes.
Lingeman says the success of the Competitive Exhibits department was made possible by a dedicated team of superintendents and volunteers that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring it all to life.
“It’s actually quite incredible when you look at what we are able to bring to life in such a small window of time,” said Lingeman. “Thousands of hours are volunteered – judging, staging, tagging, releasing exhibits. We couldn’t do it without the dozens and dozens of volunteers who come out to help before, during and after the event.”
Looking ahead to 2026, the Nebraska State Fair is planning a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, with special emphasis placed on exhibits that reflect our nation’s roots, stories and shared history. These elements will be thoughtfully incorporated throughout Competitive Exhibits, creating opportunity for exhibitors to connect their talents to the celebration of our nation.
The Nebraska State Fair welcomes ideas for new divisions and special categories as it prepares for 2026, inviting the public to help shape a Competitive Exhibits program that honors America’s past, celebrates the present and inspires the next generation during this historic milestone year.
