Tips to Your Best Fair

Here are a few suggestions to make your trip to the Nebraska State Fair enjoyable :

Plan Your Day

The Nebraska State Fair (NSF) offers hundreds of events throughout the eleven-day State Fair. The "Calendar" event tool will help you plan and maximize your time at the Nebraska State Fair. Click here, to access the event calendar. The NSF mobile app offers many features to assist you in planning your day, including a personalized schedule. Click here for more information on the NSF mobile app!

Arrive Early

Allow some time at the beginning of your day for parking and entering the fairgrounds. Depending on traffic for the day, it can take between 15 and 45 minutes. Arrive at the Fair as early as you can, to give yourself plenty of time to get set for the day. Parking is FREE!

Take note of where you parked

Whether your day at the NSF will last a few hours or the entire day, take a minute to familiarize yourself with your surroundings when you arrive to avoid confusion when you depart. Most NSF parking lots have row identification signage. Take a note of which gate you enter and the parking lot and row in which you park.
We also recommend that you double check that you are not parked illegally, parked in a "No Parking" area, or in an area that is impeding traffic or general operations of the NSF; as the NSF reserves the right to tow any vehicles that are. Any vehicles that are parked in a "No Parking" area will be assessed a $50 towing fee upon retrieval of the vehicle. Vehicles towed from an unmarked area or for the convenience of NSF operations will not be assessed a fee.
The NSF mobile app provides a parking feature which allows you to mark your vehicle location and then find it again at the end of the day, using GPS navigation! Click here, for information on the NSF mobile app.

Check the weather report

Despite the continuously changing Nebraska weather, the show will go on. Be prepared with sunscreen and visors on sunny days, have a jacket or sweatshirt for cool evenings, and carry a rain coat or umbrella in case the skies turn gray. Refunds, credits, or exchanges will not be issued for gate admission or any events that are cancelled due to inclement weather.

Bringing a large group?

We can accommodate you with our Event Tent! The Event Tent is perfect for family reunions, class reunions, corporate events, and more. For booking information, call 308-382-1620 or email

Wear comfortable footwear and clothing

There are over 500 venders, countless entertainment acts, and many other activities that span 240 acres at the NSF. Make sure your shoes are made for walking! We also request that all fairgoers dress appropriately not only for a family atmosphere, but with the mind that a potential risk may occur when riding rides or other conveyance on the grounds. Shoes and Shirt are required.

Leave unnecessary items at home

The NSF does not offer any kind of storage or locker system. The NSF is also not responsible for any lost or stolen articles in cars or on the person attending the NSF. Lost and Found during the NSF is located at the Welcome Center on State Fair Boulevard. Following the Fair, items will be transferred to the NSF Administration Offices. Items will be kept until December 31, following the Fair, and then be donated to charitable organizations.

Items not allowed on the Fairgrounds

The following are not permitted on the NSF grounds:
Helium balloons, stickers, private golf carts, auxiliary vehicles, motorized vehicles, two-wheeled vehicles, flammable materials, skates, glass containers, skateboards, knives, weapons and guns. Guns are prohibited with or without a valid Nebraska Concealed Handgun Permit. As allowed per the 2006 Nebraska Concealed Handgun Permit Act (LB454), section 15.2, the NSF prohibits permit holders from possessing or carrying a concealed handgun in or on the place or premise of the NSF grounds, which includes, but is not limited to, the NSF parking lots, campground and fairgrounds. Unless otherwise authorized by law, violation of this prohibition is a criminal offense.

Leave pets at home

Pets are not permitted on the NSF grounds or in the NSF campground. This includes, but is not limited to, dogs, cats, ferrets, reptiles, primates, etc. and pertains to all NSF guests, exhibitors, vendors, staff and partners. Please do not leave pets unattended in vehicles. The authorities will be notified of any animals found unattended in vehicles. Please see the list of area pet shelters if you are in need of a place to board your pet.

Wash your hands

For your health and safety, the NSF strongly urges you to wash your hands throughout the day, especially after visiting animal areas and barns, and prior to eating. Restrooms are located in all NSF buildings. Hand washing stations are available by the petting zoo and in the Birthing Pavilion. This will help stop the spread of potential diseases.

Bring your camera

There will be plenty of memorable moments, so bring your camera and capture the special day forever. Remember to share on the NSF Facebook page and Twitter page Use the hashtag #NEStateFair. Please note: Professional cameras and recording devices are not permitted at NSF concerts unless approved by the NSF and the artist’s management. The NSF would like to also make you aware, that by entering the grounds, you hereby consent to the reproduction and use of your photograph, image, voice or reproduction thereof, either in whole or in part of any and all advertising, promotional and publicity purposes without limitation or reservation.

Come hungry or pack a picnic

Ribs, chicken, corn dogs, cotton candy, candy apples, elephant ears, and much more are available throughout the fairgrounds. Though, if you'd prefer to pack a lunch due to food allergies or other reasons, please do so! Food, non-alcoholic beverages, coolers, and picnic baskets are permitted. Items are subject to inspection at all NSF gates. There are no food, beverage, cooler or picnic basket storage facilities available. There are select areas and events within the NSF grounds in which outside food, beverages, and coolers are prohibited. Outside food and beverages are not allowed in the Heartland Events Center or Outdoor Concert Area. Alcoholic beverages may be consumed only in designated areas by individuals of legal drinking age.

Once inside the Fair, establish a meeting place in the case your group becomes separated. The NSF suggests the Welcome Center as a meeting location. You may seek assistance at any of the information booths located on the grounds. Please contact any State Fair staff, volunteer, State Patrol Officer, or security officer on site if you are missing children and/or adults. The fair offers Child ID bracelets as a preventative measure at the welcome center.

Get a Hand Stamp

NSF gate admission tickets are valid for one use and scan only. If you are leaving the NSF and plan to come back later, be sure to get a hand stamp as you are exiting the gate. This will allow you to re-enter the NSF later on. A hand stamp is only valid for the day it is issued. If a hand stamp is not present, or if it appears to have been tampered with or transferred, payment of gate admission will be required.
A hand stamp is required for re-admission into a NSF concert, whether in the Heartland Events Center or Outdoor Concert Area. If a hand stamp is not present, or if it appears to have been tampered with or transferred, payment of a concert ticket will be required.

We may ask to search your items

All items are subject to inspection including, but not limited to, purses, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, athletic bags, duffel bags, coolers, ice chests, picnic baskets, diaper bags, strollers, packages, containers, your person and any other items capable of concealing prohibited items. We advise that you, again, leave all unnecessary items at home or in your car.

State Fair Cares - Recycling

Trash containers and recycling receptacles are available throughout the fairgrounds. Give us a hand, and pitch in! Find out what the NSF is doing to contribute here!

Smoking is prohibited in all buildings on the grounds, in accordance with the 2008 Nebraska Clean Indoor Air Act. We also ask that you refrain from smoking within 20 feet of building entrances, in the Family Fun Zone, and in the outdoor concert area.

Personal Risk

Fairgoers entering the NSF do so at their own risk.
