Please check back at a later time for new updates.

2008:

The following were some interactive educational activities featured at the 2008 Nebraska State Fair:

Barn Tours

August 23 through August 24 and August 30 through September 1, 2008

State Fair guests learned more about the livestock and animals seen in Nebraska farms and ranches. Barn tours were offered on the weekends and Labor Day.  There were two different locations for the barn tours; one location was south of coliseum and the other was across from the Farmland Building in front of the 4-H beef barn.  On Saturdays and Sundays, the tours were offered from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.  On Labor Day, the barn tours were offered from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Cyberfair

August 22 through September 1, 2008 – Located in Farmland Building

The nationally recognized Cyber Fair was back at the 2008 State Fair.  There were state-of-the-art computers that showcased Nebraska produced and created material promoting 4-H and the use of technology. Through the use of hands-on cutting edge technology exhibits, guests were encouraged to explore and interact with exhibits in the areas of animal science, communication and expressive arts, consumer and family science, healthy lifestyles, environment education and earth science, leadership and citizenship, plant science, and science and technology.

Largest Classroom

August 28, 2008 – Located throughout the fairgrounds

Nebraska’s Largest Classroom was a self-guided field trip where students and teachers had the opportunity to enjoy all the hundreds of exhibits and ground entertainment that are intended to educate, entertain, and encourage lifelong learning.  Public and home schools were invited to participate in Nebraska’s Largest Classroom.  In the past, approximately 2,500 students and teachers that represent over 80 public, private, and home schools have attended this event.

Livestock Birthing Pavilion

August 22 through September 1, 2008 – Located in the Kidz Zone

The Livestock Birthing Pavilion was a large-animal birthing area, a farrowing area and a poultry hatching area giving State Fair guests the opportunity to witness live animal births, overseen by trained professionals from the University of Nebraska Pre-Vet Medicine Program.

The Fiber Glass Milking Cow

August 22 through September 1, 2008 – Located in Farmland Building

Presented by the Nebraska Dairy Council and Nebraska Farm Bureau, guests enjoyed a three dimensional cow that allowed a realistic hands on milking experience.
